The local pieces of a Singapore app
Apps that verify who the user is often use Singpass, and Myinfo can pre-fill forms with government-verified data once the user consents. Payments usually mean cards and wallets, PayNow for transfers and, in retail, buy-now-pay-later options. Each of these has its own onboarding, and a firm that has done it before saves weeks.
English is the default, but apps for a broad public audience sometimes add Chinese, Malay or Tamil. Decide early, because translated screens change layouts.
Rates and firm sizes in the Singapore listings
We read 124 app development firms in the GoodFirms Singapore listings on 5 October 2026. Firms of 10 to 49 people were the most common (56 firms), and 29 of them quoted under $25 an hour, which usually means a team based outside Singapore.
Neither a low nor a high rate tells you much on its own. Ask for the hour estimate, the names of the people who will do the work, and the share of the work done in Singapore.
Who maintains the app in year two
Apple and Google change their requirements every year, and an app that is not updated eventually breaks or gets pulled. Budget for a maintenance plan from day one, with security updates, compatibility fixes and small improvements.
Publish under your own developer accounts and keep the code in your own repositories. If the relationship ends, your next firm can pick up where the last one stopped.
Before you commit: a checklist
- 1.
Track record
Ask: which app did you launch over a year ago that you still update?
You want to hear: a store link with a recent release
- 2.
Local integrations
Ask: have you integrated Singpass or Myinfo before?
You want to hear: a named app that uses it
- 3.
Team
Ask: where are the developers on our project based?
You want to hear: named people and their working hours
- 4.
Accounts
Ask: whose Apple and Google accounts will publish the app?
You want to hear: ours
Common questions
How much does it cost to develop an app in Singapore?
It depends on hours and rates. First versions of business apps commonly need several hundred to a few thousand hours across design, development and testing; ask each firm for the estimate behind its price.
How long does app development take?
Three to six months for a first public version is typical, longer with Singpass, payments or other integrations that need approvals.
Should I build native or cross-platform?
Flutter or React Native suit most business and consumer apps; native code suits apps that rely heavily on device features or the newest platform releases.
Can my app use Singpass login?
Yes, through the official onboarding process for eligible organisations. Ask your developer whether they have taken a client through it.
Do app developers in Singapore offer maintenance?
Most do, on a monthly retainer. Compare what is included: updates for new iOS and Android versions, security patches and response times.
