Where Python sits in a fintech stack
Python runs much of the data side of finance: pricing and risk models, fraud scoring, reconciliation jobs, reporting pipelines and the APIs that expose them, often with Django or FastAPI. Customer-facing apps may be written in other languages and call these services.
That makes correctness and traceability the core requirements. Every number a model produces should be reproducible from versioned code and data.
The firms in the listings
We read 28 firms in the GoodFirms Singapore Python listing filtered on fintech, on 5 October 2026. The most common hourly band was $25 to $49 an hour (15 firms), and larger firms were well represented, reflecting the enterprise side of this work.
Ask whether the people on your project have worked on financial calculations before. Rounding, currencies and time zones cause more incidents than algorithms.
Controls a reviewer will look for
Code review, automated tests on calculations, versioned data and models, and logs that show who changed what. These map directly to what MAS-regulated clients and their auditors ask.
For machine learning models, document the training data, the validation results and the monitoring after release. Model risk reviews will ask for all three.
Before you commit: a checklist
- 1.
Finance systems
Ask: which Python system you built handles money or risk in production?
You want to hear: a named system and a client contact
- 2.
Correctness
Ask: how do you test financial calculations?
You want to hear: automated tests with known cases and edge cases
- 3.
Traceability
Ask: can we reproduce last month's numbers from your code and data?
You want to hear: versioned code, data and configuration
- 4.
Security
Ask: how are secrets and production access managed?
You want to hear: a secrets manager and approved, logged access
Common questions
Why is Python used so much in fintech?
Its data and numerical libraries make models, analytics and automation fast to build, and frameworks such as Django and FastAPI serve them as APIs.
Is Python fast enough for payments?
For most payment back ends, yes; latency-critical trading components are sometimes written in other languages and called from Python.
How much does Python development cost in Singapore?
Hours times rate; $25 to $49 an hour was the most common band in this listing. Testing and documentation add to fintech budgets.
Do I need a firm with MAS experience?
If your company is regulated or partners with a regulated institution, experience with MAS expectations on technology risk saves time in reviews.
